SECOLO GRANATA
THE CLUB'S HISTORY
Secolo Granata Toro Club comes from “an idea” of Andrea Carbonara, one of the owners of Druento’s Night and Day pub.
A strong Toro supporter, Andrea felt the need for a Club dedicated to his “Team of the Heart” after the closure, years before, of the town’s Granata Club named “Fedelissimi Granata Druento” (Druento Granata Believers).
The lack of such a club is particularly felt in a village like Druento, where the passion for Toro is warmly felt by many resident supporters.
In May 2006, Andrea’s idea takes shape with the foundation of the Club, named Secolo Granata (Granata Century).
This event not only takes place during the Toro’s first centenary but, above all, out of the new spirit that characterizes a new century in the life of the Society.
In short, as a good wish for the century just gone and a good omen for the hundred years to come.
Andrea Carbonara becomes the Club's President, supported by Enzo Randazzo and Marco Bedino as Vice Presidents, Roberto Pinard as Secretary, Luca Lombardi for Public Relations and Daniele Pinard, Marco Orlando, Gabriele Bene, Enrico Vasta, Andrea Ferretti and Simone Bonaldo as Councilmen.
On 23 March 2006, TORINO FC officially recognizes the Secolo Granata Toro Club as an Official Club affiliated to the Society.
In this period the Secolo Granata Toro Club already lists 176 subscribers, which will become 280 at the end of the same year; supporters resident not only in Druento, but also in the neighbouring villages, and in Turin.
On 10 October 2006, the Secolo Granata Toro Club leaders at last get to organize the official inauguration of the Druentino brotherhood with a superb party, which sees the participation of over 130 supporters, town dignitaries, Curva Maratona and Toro Club’s Coordination Centre representatives.
The TORINO FC is represented by the Society manager, Fabio Bernardi and by football players Andrea Ardito and Axel Konan.
Especially welcome is the participation of Andrea Ardito, already by then taken to the Granata supporters’ hearts for his capacity to interpret the true “Toro player” to the point of receiving in 2008 his first recognition from the Curva Primavera as “Granata Player of the Year”.
Since its birth, the Secolo Granata Toro Club has also belonged to the Toro Clubs’ Coordination Centre, an association uniting and representing about 170 of the 220 clubs affiliated to the TORINO FC.
Together with the Toro Clubs’ Coordination Centre, the Secolo Granata Toro Club actively participates in the organization of the feast held on the 5 January 2008 in Sestriere (Torino), called “Tori delle Nevi” (Bulls of the Snows), joined by more than 800 persons participating in the various programmed activities (ski competition, Granata’s flagging on the pistes, games in the sports stadium and the Gala Dinner).
In April 2008, the Secolo Granata Toro Club, for the first time participates with a street stall selling gadgets in the Spring’s Feast of Druento, which is followed by watching the Torino match and by a visit by Claudio Sala, championship Torino player, who presented his wines “I Filari del Poeta”.
Also in April 2009, the town event has seen the participation of the Club with its street stall, visited by the supporters buying scarves, T-shirts, hats and sweatshirts with the Secolo Granata logo.
In June 2008, the Secolo Granata Toro Club has been the promoter, always with the Toro Clubs’ Coordination Centre, of the 2-days’ feast held in Druento, called “I figli dei…Tori” (The sons of the... bulls) that has seen the participation of about 600 persons over both days, with concerts by nine music groups, Granata street stalls and dinner in a marquee.
In November 2008, the Secolo Granata Toro Club organized its second social dinner at the restaurant “Dalla padella alla brace” in Druento, with the festive participation of about 160 Granata supporters (many as representatives of other Toro Clubs) who had the opportunity to meet Pisano, Barone and Rubin from today’s Toro, as well as Patrizio Sala, Roberto Salvatori and Beppe Pallavicini, players of the Toro that won the championship in 1976.
Very important for the commitment of the Club to social issues, was the participation of the Secolo Granata Toro Club in December 2007 to the “Toro Clubs” group (among the others being the TC Rosina, the TC Borgo Vittoria, the TC Salvadori, the TC Sant’Ambrogio and the TC La Gru) that organized the collection of money and toys given to the UGI - the Union of Italian Families of Children hospitalized in the oncology department of the Regina Margherita Hospital, for the “Toro Clubs’ Granata Christmas”.
The same thing was repeated, with success and satisfaction in December 2008.
Another good and useful initiative was the organization of the theater evening on the 6 March 2009, at the parish theater of Druento, where two Granata supporters from the “E. Mondonico” Toro Club of Valfenera performed a piece in Piemontese dialect.
The substantial proceeds of the evening were entirely donated to the Toro Club “Tori Seduti” brotherhood, made up of Granata brothers of different abilities, that will be used for Toro Club purposes.
Many other little things have been done or will be done, equally important for the Club’s life, such as the booking and the withdrawal of the subscriptions for the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 Seasons, as well as the watching of many Championship matches, in groups, at the “Night and Day” in Druento, in front of a nice glass of beer.
All this to strengthen the indestructible Granata faith and to “persuade” supporters who may still be undecided, to belong to a Toro Club, in our case to the Secolo Granata Toro Club.
